Title:&nbsp;Academic Tutoring - Tutor I, Tutor II, Tutor III (Temporary Part-Time) Position Summary:&nbsp;Tutor students to improve their academic performance, retention, and graduation rates. Department:&nbsp;Academic Tutoring
Location:&nbsp;Tutors will work from one or more of the five Pellissippi State campuses or virtually.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;
Pay Rate:&nbsp;
Tutor I: Less than 1 year of experience, $16.00 per hour
Tutor II: 1-3 years of experience, $17 per hour
Tutor III: 3+ years of experience, $18 per hour
Duties and&nbsp;Responsibilities:
90% – Tutor students&nbsp;individually and in groups. Adapt tutoring methods to meet students’ varying needs and interests. Tutor through questioning, discussion, and demonstration. 4% – Complete tutor training activities and submit required paperwork.
2% – Communicate with Academic Tutoring personnel.
2% – Visit classes and attend events to promote tutoring services. 1% – Confer with other tutors and teachers to resolve students’ problems.
1% – Refer students to other departments/resources within the College. Note: The College&nbsp;reserves the right to change or reassign job duties, or combine positions at any time. Required&nbsp;Qualifications:
A. The candidate must have successfully completed the class(es) that he/she will be tutoring and received a grade of B or better in the class.&nbsp;
B. Transcripts that show minimum qualifications must be provided. C. Applicant must be professional,&nbsp;respectful, and trustworthy. D. Applicant must have: 
<ol>
<li>Communication skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey information to students. 
</li>
<li>Interpersonal skills: Ability to work with students of different ages, backgrounds, and learning styles. 
</li>
<li>Adaptability/Adjustability: Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances, including the use of technology and online tutoring platforms.</li>
<li>Organizational skills: Ability to manage time effectively and keep detailed records of student progress. 
</li>
<li>Patience and dedication: Ability to be patient and persistent in helping students reach their goals.</li>
</ol>
E. Writing/English tutors are required to have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a writing-intensive major. A master’s degree is preferred.
F. Math tutors must have&nbsp;successfully completed the next higher class that will be&nbsp;tutored. For example, in order&nbsp;to tutor Calculus II, a candidate must have completed Calculus&nbsp;III&nbsp;with a B or better.&nbsp;
G. Tutors must be able to utilize some computer applications, including use of&nbsp;the Internet. Non-Essential Functions:
A. Greet students&nbsp;entering Academic Tutoring Centers and make sure they sign in. B. Knowledge of&nbsp;Pellissippi&nbsp;coursework and requirements. C. Enforce rules for behavior. E. Multi-tasking abilities.&nbsp; F. Perform related duties as assigned. Closing Date:&nbsp;Ongoing
