GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Barry Florescue Undergraduate Business Program is seeking a motivated and dedicated team member to serve as an Career Advisor for our growing team. The Career Advisor will play a critical role in supporting the career development and success of undergraduate business students at the University of Rochester. This position will collaborate closely with the Benet Career Management Center to ensure alignment and integration with the career advising services offered to full-time MS and MBA students. The Career Advisor will also partner with the Gwen Greene Career Center to utilize shared resources and foster a strong relationship in order to provide comprehensive career guidance, support, and programming tailored to the unique needs of undergraduate business students.

Reports to – Faculty Director of the Barry Florescue Undergraduate Business Program

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Career Advising (25%)

  • Provide one-on-one career advising to undergraduate business students.
  • Assist students in developing career plans, identifying career goals, and navigating the internship and full-time job search process.
  • Offer guidance on resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, networking strategies, and job offer negotiations.
  • Aids in program development and delivery:
    • Design, implement, and assess career development programs and workshops tailored to undergraduate business students.
    • Collaborate with faculty, staff, the Benet Career Management Center, and the Gwen Greene Career Center to integrate career development into the undergraduate curriculum.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with employers, alumni, and other stakeholders to create internship and job opportunities for students.
  • Collaborates with other resource centers and serves as a key bridge of integration:
    • Work closely with the Benet Career Management Center to leverage shared resources and ensure consistency in career advising practices.
    • Collaborate with MBA and MS career advisors to share best practices and support students interested in pursuing advanced degrees.
    • Partner with the Gwen Greene Career Center to align efforts and resources, ensuring comprehensive support for undergraduate business students.
    • Participate in cross-functional teams and committees to support the overall career services strategy within the Simon Business School.

Student Engagement (25%)

  • Develop and implement strategies to engage undergraduate business students in career development activities and services:
    • Serve in an advisory capacity for the industry- and career-related student organizations on campus.
    • Create and distribute career-related communications and marketing materials to promote events, resources, and opportunities, including the bi-weekly “Business Buzz” newsletter.
  • 25% - Track employment outcomes
    • Track assigned student progress throughout job search and keep detailed spreadsheet and advising and referral notes.
    • Conduct outreach to students’ post-graduation to follow up on career progress and present opportunities as identified.
    • Provide relevant documentation by individual to satisfy employment reporting requirements according to all relevant standards.
  • 20% - Business development
    • Work independently and with Corporate Engagement teams on identifying and bringing companies that hire undergraduate students to campus, and facilitating alumni virtual networking, presentations or interviewing.
    • Accountable for reaching out to a set # of corporate contacts weekly and quarterly to build network and advance student progress.
    • Work with the Corporate Engagement teams to oversee social media campaigns targeted at corporations and contacts.
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned, including:
    • Assist with online and print promotional activities for Undergraduate Business.
    • Staff meetings and projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, education, counseling, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in career advising, coaching, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of career development theories, job market trends, and employer expectations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver effective career development programs and services.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with undergraduate business students.
  • Familiarity with the University of Rochester and Simon Business School’s academic programs and resources.
  • Knowledge of internship and job placement processes and employer engagement strategies.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $60,431 - $84,603 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
