Shift
Days, Nights, Weekends, 7:30AM – 12AM; expected to work an average of 10-hours during the University work week which is from Sunday-Saturday of each week. Hours may vary to meet departmental needs. Flexibility in work location; will be given an opportunity to work in the Cornerstone building innovation space or the Media Depot.
The internship will start the 1st week of classes and run through the week before finals.
Job Summary
The Smart Campus Initiative is seeking student interns interested in joining the Bowman’s Friends Student Podcast team. The interns will be responsible for one or more of the following: creation, edition, production, and/or scheduling of the podcast and/or Instagram content. We’re looking for students to add their own personality and enthusiasm to the podcast, but some of the content will be provided through UKNow and Wildcat Rundown. The students will continue with the podcast platform, regular cadence of shows, and provide a student perspective on fun, interesting, and need-to-know happenings at UK and in the surrounding community.
There are two roles within the podcast team: hosts and editors. The intern(s) will only have the responsibility of one of the roles.
3 Hosts – Will consist of Juniors/Seniors, responsible for recording episodes, reaching and and coordinating with guests, creating social media posts such as TikToks/Reels, other duties as assigned
3 Editors – Will consist of Sophomores/Juniors, responsible for editing episodes, creating graphics for episodes, editing social media posts, other duties as assigned
The overall goals of the podcast are to:
1. Build an interest and following of UK Students.
2. Provide a student perspective on events and news that affect campus and the community.
3. Offer students an internship opportunity to gain skills and experience in production, broadcasting, communicating, and technology.
4. Create community and partnerships among the Smart Campus Initiative, the College of Communication and Information faculty and students, UKPR, and ITS.
The ideal intern(s) will have an interest in podcasts, technology, and/or editing. Applicants should have an innovative, problem-solving, and curious mindset. Interns will be expected to take initiative and work independently while also having a positive attitude and a collaborative spirit. Students will have flexibility in work location but will also be given the opportunity to work in the cornerstone building innovation space or the media depot.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Excellent communication, organization, and research skills with the ability to follow department procedures/policies and to work independently and among peers.
