Physical Requirements
The essential functions for this position include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds on a daily basis and 25-50 pounds frequently; as well as stand, walk and sit for long periods of time. The conditions of work may involve exposure to communicable diseases, hazards of radiation, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.
Shift
Must be able to work 36 or 40 hours per week, typically three 12-hour shifts from either 7A-730PM AND/OR 7PM-730AM for 36 hour/week positions.
Some positions in specific clinical areas will require 40 hours per week; with possible holidays and weekends.
Job Summary
New Grad AND EXPERIENCED RNs are eligible to apply to all units/areas within our system which includes UK Chandler, UK Good Samaritan, Kentucky Children’s, all UK Ambulatory sites, and Eastern State Hospital.

Registered Nurses at UK HealthCare provide care to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. UK HealthCare focuses on providing safe and efficient nursing care and treat patients with a variety of general/specific clinical conditions.
New Grad Sign-On Bonus Program: $15,000 for 18 months of service in select areas. The New Grad Sign-On Bonus is available to any new graduate RN. A new graduate is a nurse who has recently graduated from nursing school or will graduate by December 2024 and moving from a student nurse to a full licensure. It can be an Associate (ADN) or Bachelors (BSN) or Licensed Professional Nurse (LPN) moving to RN graduate. To qualify, this must be the graduate’s first position as a nurse once graduating from an accredited nursing school. New grad must be hired into Nurse Clinical/UKHC role at .5 FTE or higher.
Experienced Nurse Sign-On Bonus Program: $20,000 for 18 months of service in select areas.
The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistant); and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations. Furthermore, this environment supports collaborative efforts among the nursing staff and the team of physicians to increase communication and enhance expected patient outcomes. This includes utilization of the nursing process in conjunction with a comprehensive patient-centered plan of care, ensuring patient satisfaction.
All new graduate registered nurses or registered nurses with less than 12 months of registered nursing experience are automatically enrolled in our Nationally Accredited Nurse Residency Program (NRP). Nurse residents are expected to attend and participate in 100% of NRP events which are all pre-scheduled, paid, work time. Completion of the NRP is a mandatory component of orientation for new graduate nurses and is a condition of employment.
UK HealthCare and Eastern State Hospital have achieved Magnet Status, the highest institutional honor awarded for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
The ideal candidate will have the following: knowledge of Maslow’s eight Basic Human Needs and the priority within Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Frame Work as well as Swanson’s Caring model; superb direct patient care and critical thinking skills; basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet; ability to communicate in a professional and respectful manner with patients and their families, co-workers and physicians; and strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skill. The candidate will be highly motivated, pro-active and confident in advocating for patients and their family members. Will also enjoy working in a strong team environment and provides open, honest communication with fellow staff and physicians. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess exceptional technical skills and a proven ability to work in a team as well as independently.
