Job Summary:

Works independently under department supervision along with a direct connection to the Quality department to direct the day to day activities of our final visual process for our Laporte finished product.  Daily focus on improving our quality Parts per Million (PPM) and our 1st time yields through final visual. Works with Visual Level III to eliminate the need for over-inspection at shipping. Helping Visual Level III for root cause problem solving is a major component of this position’s responsibilities.

This opening is for our Laporte finished product on 3rd shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday-Friday). This openings is for internal candidates only.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Using Computers (entering information, etc.)
  • Must be able to read and interpret Product Criteria (PC) and Activity Instructions (AI).
  • Must be able to function as a member of a team and be able to work under general supervision.
  • Must be able to maintain expected quality levels.
  • Comply with all site required policies and procedures including but not limited to:  EHS, Quality, Code of Conduct, and the Wichita Falls Employee Handbook.

Job Responsibilities:

1.

Ensure compliance to customer visual specifications.

2.

Help Visual Level III to identify problems and establish root cause solutions.

3.

Communicate daily with the Visual Level 3.

5.

Communicate daily with supervision regarding problems, decisions, and flow requirements.

6.

Review castings as they are being finished in order to eliminate over and under working.  Provide metal finishing employees with feedback on their quality performance.

7.

Conduct necessary quality audits both before and after finishing.

8.

Request Visual Level III to communicate with wax team and engineering to improve wax related quality issues.

9.

Log information and generate data using databases and excel spread sheets.
10.

Communicate with engineering on parts with poor process related quality i.e. splits, fins, plus metal. Contact supervisor and engineer.
11.

Work to meet or exceed department and plant metrics for quality.
12.

Other duties as required.

  • Comply with all department, facility, corporate and regulatory EHS regulations
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE). Requires wearing safety glasses, earplugs, gloves, and Metatarsal shoes.
  • Report all job-related illness and injuries (Per Employee Handbook).
  • Report all safety, health, and environmental concerns to your supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Attend all EHS training.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/EQUIPMENT USED:

1. Physical Demands:

Employee is required to execute the following:
  • Push pull and twist.
  • Floor-to-waist lift and carry, lifting and carrying to the waist high level, carrying items with two hands.
  • Gripping and pinching
  • Reaching near, far, and overhead
  • Hand/Arm Vibration
  • Be able to climb ladders and stairs
  • Moderate lifting > 50 lbs.
  • Good manual dexterity to operate computer equipment and precision measuring instruments.
  • Position may require more than eight hours daily and more than five days weekly to complete work assignments.
  • Squatting/crouching/bending when retrieving stored items from lower shelves and file cabinets, moving equipment / product inspections, etc.
  • Frequently Standing when gauging
  • Frequent sitting when wall gauging or finishing.
  • Clean work areas and maintain a clean work environment; perform 5S cleaning activities as required.

2. Skills and Abilities:
  • Work requires basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic with the use of fractions and decimals.
  • Must acquire knowledge for acceptable/non-acceptable requirements for castings by interpreting and understanding visual specifications as outlined by our customers and engineers.
  • Ability to interpret moderate engineering detailed drawings.
  • Must be able to perform multiple operations simultaneously.
  • Must be able to teach others the appropriate techniques required to properly finish castings. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to travel if necessary.

3. Training:
  • Required to pass Level II Proficiency test.
  • Pass written and proficiency test. (finishing)

4. Equipment Used:
  • Pin gauges
  • Computer and software
  • Borescope
  • Flat gauges
  • Calibrated wire gauges
  • Auto scope

 Work Environment: (Chemical and Physical Exposures):
May be exposed to noise, oil, dust, fumes, chemicals, heat and cold.
Requires wearing of safety glasses, metal tarsal shoes, hearing protection and gloves.

Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  •  Two years of metal department experience.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
