As the lock technician, you will be expected to identify standard keyways at SCAD, cut and duplicate keys with minimal waste, select the appropriate key blank, and operate machines properly. This job includes the ability to read and understand re-keying math, pinning/repining a cylinder, replacing existing door hardware with matching hardware, and servicing hardware.  

In this role, you will be responsible for replacing, servicing, and installing door closers, installing door accessories, replacing cabinet locks, maintaining proper key control documentation, and servicing or adjusting ADA operators. Additionally, as the lock technician, you will be expected to prep new doors and jams for hardware; write and formulate a master key chart; maintain vehicle keys for all SCAD vehicles; by-pass locks through emergency entry and lock picking; act as the on-call individual for emergencies; assist other workers as requested; and follow all SCAD policies.  

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • High school diploma/GED or six-months related experience or training   

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Low voltage experience dealing with power supplies and door operators and pinning locks  
  • Knowledge and experience with various products/manufacturers and familiarity with access control systems 
  • Experience or ability to learn the installation of door hardware  
  • Experience or ability to learn cutting keys with machines 

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:  

  • Valid driver’s license   

Travel required: Less than 10%  

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
