Position Summary
The Interior Design Program invites part-time faculty candidates for Interior Design Lecturer within the School of Media & Design. Position will teach undergraduate courses in Interior Design, to include, studio and seminar courses, ensuring implementation of CIDA standards in all courses taught. Integration of a variety of digital media into Design Studios is expected.
In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of part-time faculty members at the University include teaching with professional activities as assigned.
Essential Functions
Basic Instructional Duties:
- Prepare course outlines and teach based on approved departmental syllabi; prepare and deliver consistent, interactive lectures; courses to be taught may include, but are not limited to: Architectural Drawing, Form, Space & Theory, Construction and Details, Space Planning, Architectural Graphics, Computer Applications for ID, CADD, Interior Materials, Lighting & Design, History of the Built Environment, Environmental Systems and Sustainability, Textiles for Interior Design, Codes and Construction Documents, and Project Management. Ensure implementation of CIDA standards in all courses taught.
- Prepare and execute timely and meaningful exams and assessments for assigned courses.
- Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met.
- Be available outside of class to help students learn as well as answer their questions (1 hour per 3-hour class, physically and/or electronically).
- Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies and procedures, including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
- Document lectures, PowerPoints, handouts, and student tests and projects for CIDA binders; complete CIDA Binder at end of each semester.
- Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
- Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings upon request.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Demonstrated time management and detail-oriented skills.
- Computer-based skills (i.e. software, including design software such as AutoCAD & SketchUp), analytical, and report writing skills.
- Commitment to implementation of CIDA standards in all courses within scope of responsibility.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design or a closely related field, as required for lecture-based courses.
- Master’s Degree in Interior Design or a closely related field, as required for studio-based courses.
Required Work Experience
Two (2) years of work experience in the field of interior design.
Preferred Qualifications
- Terminal degree (Ph.D., MFA, or MID) in Interior Design or a closely-related field.
- NCIDQ Certificate Holder.
- Registered Interior Designer.
- WELL AP or LEED Green Associate
- Two (2) years of teaching experience in higher education.
- Active member of IDEC, ASID, IIDA, AIA or NKBA
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
NCIDQ Certificate Holder is required to teach studio-based classes.
