Pay Rate: $52,350 - $65,060.00/per year. Pay will be determined based on related work experience above required. To be considered in determining pay, all related work experience must be listed on the application.

Position Summary:  The purpose of the is job is to provide maintenance and technical support of computer systems, database server and selected third-party applications used enterprise wide in a local and hosted environment.  Provides mission critical applications supporting college operations.  Provides expertise and guidance in the areas of evaluation, development, implementation and support of daily operations of the network system servers and third party connected application to the local database environment.  Maintains Oracle database systems, security and user provisioning for database services.

Essential Functions:

40% Perform installation and administrative function for Network server systems to include Database server administration for college database record systems.  Monitor performance and troubleshoot error alerts using locally developed tools.  Install patches, fixes and upgrades required for all production and test environments.

10% Install database systems and software products, manage file systems, monitor performance and troubleshoot error alerts from commercial and locally-developed monitoring tools; install database patches, fixes and upgrades required for all administrative production test environments.

10% Manage and oversee backup and restore for databases and files along with server systems.  Ensure integrity of data while developing and maintaining strict security protecting systems and data.  Create and write scripts necessary to facilitate management of systems and automated processes.

10% Perform system administrative functions for the production administrative and academic computer systems including RedHat Linux and Microsoft Windows servers.  Design and maintain technical procedures for systems and database backups, installations and software upgrades.

10% Provide proper documentation for systems and applications supported and problem resolution information including use of formal trouble ticket systems; help implement IT policies and procedures; support end users as needed with database and system issues

15% Perform preventive maintenance procedures to ensure quality performance of college servers; work with Networking group and others to implement new services.

5% Provide strategic planning related to databases, security systems, and hardware resources necessary for optimal operation of college administrative systems.  Server as local contact to ensure compliance of established PCI standards are implemented and followed.

Key Results Areas: Availability and reliability of the computer servers supporting database services for student and employee information.  Near 100%, expectation of these systems is required.

Job Requirements: 

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and 2 years’ related experience as a technical systems administrator in Unix/Linux and Windows environment. 

Associate’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 4 years’ related experience as a technical systems administrator in Unix/Linux and Windows environment. 

High school degree and 6 years of related experience may be substituted for AS degree as a technical systems administrator in Unix/Linux and Windows environment. 

Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience.

Complexity & Creativity: Knowledge in systems design and access technologies with SQL. Expertise in local area networking and wide area networking environments.  Ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with others.  Experience with firewalls and authentication systems a plus.  Ability to write technical documentation.  Understanding of network equipment and configuration rules, understanding of computer system security and account management. Able to engage in the college’s mission and values.

Magnitude of Impact:  Errors in configuration of critical third-party products have a direct impact on the ability to collect student payments.  Downtime in software supporting payroll and other business process would have negative consequences for the institution.

Responsibility for Accuracy: Errors in system configuration are possible.  Typically, the employee will find this error directly or others (staff, users) involved in testing systems will find any mistakes; an undetected error can adversely impact computer services across the institution

Financial Impact: System inoperability or failure to maintain systems can lead to direct compromise of data or system failure which directly result in loss of revenue for site income or function

Judgement and Decisions: Employee must be able to make technical decisions independently. Decisions that would result in significant outages, etc. will be discussed with supervision and scheduled when possible. Sound judgment and analytical thinking are required to succeed in this position.

Nature of Contacts: Contacts with others in department to address problem resolution, plan services/reconfigurations; contacts with others outside department to discuss services needed; contacts with other institutions or vendors when working on problem resolution or planning upgrades/changes.

Physical Demands: May require lifting and bending to install equipment.  This job requires attention to audible alerts in the computer room as well as daily calls with vendors and others.  Job requires significant attention to detail and finding anomalies in a wide variety of files, listings, and configurations on computer displays.  Must be able to detect various lights on servers, etc. in the computer room.  Also, color perception because various reports and instructions from software documentation will be color coded for clarity.  Primarily an office environment

Hazards: Working with racks of servers, etc. introduces safety issues due to lifting equipment and connecting equipment to electrical circuits.
