Job Summary

The University of Kentucky Department of Educational Leadership Studies (EDL) seeks an Assistant Professor, regular title series, tenure-eligible, team member to assist our efforts to broaden access to leadership preparation to more students and community partners. EDL develops students to be effective and innovative leaders in education, whether through formal or informal educational settings in community. We share a goal of empowering students to be agents of positive social change across a wide variety of disciplines. Thus, we desire candidates who seek to embed their work within community through socially just, civic-embedded scholarship.

We seek an individual who can contribute primarily to the new undergraduate instructional program offered by the department – Leadership for Community Education and Human Learning (LCE). The typical course load for a regular titles series faculty member in the College of Education is four courses a year (2-2). Further, faculty are expected to engage with undergraduate students and serve on the LCE undergraduate committee.

LCE is a non-teacher certification undergraduate program that prepares students to become effective leaders while implementing engaging educational programs within our communities. This includes individuals seeking a professional career in educational programming for youth and adult learners outside of the traditional classroom structure. LCE includes a variety of leadership and community education courses; a few examples include: Introduction to Community Education, Entrepreneurial Community Programming, Contemporary Leadership Applications, along with capstone courses in leadership and community education.

Across all EDL programs, a robust student experience is central and thus we seek an individual with demonstrated capacity to provide guidance and support to students across all levels. Other potential teaching/advising may support other EDL programs including the Early Childhood Policy Certificate and the Master/EdS programs in educational leadership, superintendency, and doctoral programs.

The successful candidate is also expected to develop and maintain an innovative and collaborative research program and pursue external funding. Research areas for this position will be considered broadly because of the various domains in which community leadership can manifest. These areas may include: community-based education, community and civic engagement, social entrepreneurship and marketing that incorporates community innovation, sociology of education, communication, prevention science, organizational leadership processes, community program planning, implementation, and evaluation. In particular, candidates whose research is interdisciplinary will be prioritized. The successful candidate is also expected to publish in peer-reviewed journals and engage scholarly communities through academic presentations.

Applicants are eligible for a generous benefits package as a University of Kentucky faculty member with diverse rewards, focusing on your total well-being. Additional information and updates to benefits can be found at: https://www.uky.edu/hr/benefits
